How do I point my GoDaddy domain name to my Console website?

Follow

Here are the steps for pointing your GoDaddy domain to the Console IP:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account and go your Domains section.
  2. In the My Domains list, click on the domain you want to point to the Console in order to access the Domain Settings page.

  3. Scroll down to the Additional Settings section and select Manage DNS.
    click manage dns
  4. On the DNS Management page, under Records and to the right of A Record, click the edit edit dns pencil icon pencil icon.

  5. In the pop-up window, replace the GoDaddy IP with the Coaches Console IP (139.144.135.107) in the field "Points to" and you can also change the TTL (Time To Live) setting to be faster (from 1/2 hour). Don't forget to save the changes.

  6. IMPORTANT: You also need a 'www' entry configured in your DNS settings (it can be done either as an A entry or a CNAME entry), so that your URL also works with www in it: https://www.your-domain.com. You can ask your domain name host to help you set it up.
  7. After you do the above in your GoDaddy domain name settings, you need to go in your Console > WEBSITE TAB > Settings > "Website Prefix" section > check the option "I want to use my own custom domain name for my Coaches Console website" and complete the "Domain URL" field with your external domain name and save.
  8. IMPORTANT: Your Console website prefix needs to be the same as your external domain name, in order for the domain mapping to work. Meaning, if your custom domain is sample-domain.com, your Console website prefix needs to also be "sample-domain". The Coaches Console system will match this automatically when you save the settings here.

After all these settings are implemented, going to your custom domain URL may not show your Console website there immediately after the IP redirect. How fast the change takes place depends on your TTL (Time To Live) value in GoDaddy and also on Internet conditions. So, the propagation of the new IP over the Internet will take a while, from a few minutes and up to a day.

Also, two TLS security certificates (using the TLS 1.2 cryptographic protocol) will be generated from the Console end in the next 24 hours from the moment you save the website settings in the Coaches Console (point 7 above): one for your main domain name (sample-domain.com) and another for the 'www' part of the URL. This will secure browsing on your domain name, so that people do not see a security alert when they go there.

When I do this, I get the popup window, but the top field asks for the Host, and @ is already in the field. When I try to enter my domain, it says to list my domain or sub-domain. This makes no sense to me, and I can't find anything to do anything about that.

Deni, you would need to enter the Console IP, not a domain or sub-domain. :) Can you please submit a ticket in the help desk with a screenshot where you show us where the problem seems to be on your end? Also, if I may add, after you setup things in your external domain name, you also need to go into the Console to WEBSITE TAB > Settings > section "Website Prefix" and enter the URL of your external domain name in the field "Domain URL: http://" .
