No, you don't need to use your Coaches Console public website, although you may still want to use the Console private portal where your coaching clients login to do their work and get access to the private resources you give them permission to.
Also, keep in mind that by default the Coaches Console Opt-In Forms are using a Console system generated Thank You page (in Website > Custom Opt-In Forms > edit Opt-In Form > tab 'Thank You Page'), to which subscribers on your external website will be led after they subscribe, if you leave it like this.
If you do not want that, then you can create a Thank You page on your external website and assign it to be the Thank You Page of your Console Opt-In Form in the same section ( Website > Custom Opt-In Forms > edit Opt-In Form > tab 'Thank You Page' > use the 'External URL' option in the pages drop-down list there to paste the URL of your external Thank You Page and save.
